For the first time this season, I am finally writing and podcasting a Garden Update for the Week of 8/28/17. This is the first garden update from Minneapolis, and it is the first garden update using my iPhone 7.
Of course, you can watch the Garden Update on the Small Scale Life YouTube Channel or watch the episode here (special thanks to my friend Todd Ehrhardt at Life’s Adventure Film for the cool logo at the start of this video):
Garden Bed 1
In Garden Bed 1, I planted the following plants:
Except for the chives, I started all of these plants from seed back in March of this year. They are all growing well in the Square Foot Garden Raised Beds. We have harvested some of the Early Treat Tomatoes already, and they were very good.
The Red Bell Peppers are growing well, and recently they developed buds! I am really excited to have a good crop of Red Peppers growing, and I will be adding them to future batches of salsa. After all, we will be having our 3rd Annual Salsa Contest in the near future!
Garden Bed 2
Garden Bed 2 is a mish-mash of different plants, and many of them came from the compost bed! I have the following plants growing Bed 2:
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Green Bell Peppers
- Compost Cucumbers
- Compost Tomato Plants
- Basil Plants
I will be harvesting basil this week, along with the ripe cherry tomatoes. The cucumber plants have buds, but they no cucumbers have formed from those buds yet. We’ll see what happens!
Next Steps
Since we are almost in September, it is time to get moving on two things:
- Planting quick-growing crops before the first frost
- Start building a new mobile wicking bed
I will have more updates on those items later this week! Stay tuned!
