Introduction – Feeling Overwhelmed
As many of you know, I have been on the road a lot recently. When you are gone from your home and family, things start to pile up. Sure, you might be meeting excellent people and doing great things on the road, but life feels out of control. Things break, the lawn grows, and business needs attention.
These things start to weigh on your mind and bog you down. Returning home, you suddenly have a lot to do before you reload and head out again. As that to do list grows and the tasks get more complex, so does that feeling of panic and dread.
You can easily feel overwhelmed by the demands of family, work and life. That feeling can wash over you, and if you are not careful, you will get nothing done because you feel paralyzed by the amount of work on your plate.
That is how I am feeling as we roll into this weekend. How are you doing?
Midweek Motivation Lesson – How to Remedy Feeling Overwhelmed
Back in the day, I used to be leader in the Boy Scouts. The leaders had a little question and saying we would say to each other as we helped the boys with their projects and helped each other herd the cats:
How do you eat an elephant?
The answer is one bite at a time.
Stop what you are doing. Take a deep breath, make a to do list, and then prioritize that list. Get some momentum by completing a task that is a priority but relatively simple. You will feel that sense of accomplishment as you cross that item off the list.
Focus. Turn on some music, make it fun and get that list done, one item at a time. Remember: Rome wasn’t built in day. In some cases, not everything will be completed in a day, but focused intensity over time should produce results.
Give it a try.
So, I ask you again: how are you doing? Feeling overwhelmed?
Maybe you need to eat your elephant, one bite at a time.
