Introduction to Pivoting Business Strategies

Do you remember your dreams of who you would be and what you would be doing when you were young?  I can tell you, I wanted to follow my dad’s footsteps and play football in the NFL.  Things happened, and I ended up following a different path to doing something that I really love.

Just like when you are dreaming when you are young, the same happens when you start a massive projector a business.  You have this dream of doing something great, and then life and reality happen.  As the Chief of Staff of the Prussian Army before World War 1 Helmuth von Moltke the Elder stated:

“No battle plan survivesfirst contact with the enemy.”

Helmuth von Moltke the Elder

This is the absolute truth.

Whether it’s your dreams, your business, your football team or your Army, you need to be ready to change and adapt as the “battlefield” changes in front of you.  Some opportunities present themselves, others fade.  Are you ready to take advantage of those opportunities?

This is critical for our businesses.  We have to start pivoting business strategies to make sure we take advantage of those opportunities.

Who is Drew Sample?

These two guys: Greg Burns and Drew Sample!

Drew started Capital City Greens in Columbus, Ohio, in 2015I met Drew through the Small Scale Life Instagram Account, and I posted an interview with him on Small Scale Life Podcast in May 2016.

Since that interview, Drew has been pivoting business strategies as he learned what worked and what didn’t in his markets.  For example, he pulled back on Farmer’s Markets and add more restaurants to his client list.  Marketing this small business has been key, and to do that, Drew and Farm Manager Rich Fratzel have been featured in local magazines and on other podcasts/vlogs

When he isn’t building clients for Capital City Greens, Drew is working on interviewing interesting people on The Sample Hour, his own podcast platform.  He has interviews a number of folks who have been on Small Scale Life Podcast including Scott Hebert, Greg Burns, Michael Jordan, Charles Hugh Smith, and Kevin GearyOf course, I was a guest on The Sample Hour in Episode 121.

Drew and his Grandfather Pa

Drew lost his Grandfather earlier this year, and his Grandfather was his mentor.  These are difficult times, and I asked Drew for a little of Pa’s knowledge.  I figured that this man had some great insight, and Drew provided the following lessons learned from Pa:

“If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t want want to be anyone else but me. Hugs go a long way; laugh at yourself. Love your life cause it is the only one you’re gonna have.”

Acie Pack “Pa”

Rest in peace, sir, and we hope you will find some comfort, Drew.  Thank you for sharing this with us.
