In this episode of the Small Scale Life Podcast, Adam aand Tom discuss Monk Mode and if this is a path to productivity or burnout.
What is Monk Mode?
Several of us are planning to start new things in 2025. New workout plans, new diets, book clubs, neighborhood gatherings, garden plans, new businesses, new side hustles…the list is endless. Some people decide to go “all in” on their new thing or endeavor. Is it an obsession or just intense focus over time?
Some folks in the self-improvement world have coined the term “Monk Mode” to describe this process of going all in on a project or endevor. “Monk Mode” is a term used to describe a period of intense focus, discipline, and self-imposed isolation, typically aimed at personal development or achieving a specific goal. The concept draws inspiration from the lifestyle of monks, who often dedicate themselves to spiritual practices and strict routines. In modern contexts, it involves cutting out distractions, adopting a minimalist approach to life, and dedicating time to focused work, study, fitness, or other self-improvement activities. It is often associated with productivity, mental clarity, and deep concentration.
There is a lot more to say about Monk Mode, and I think I will be doing a “Just One More Thing” Show about this topic.
